David & Nafia's Success Stories: Healthy Homes Initiative in Clay County

Updated: Jul 31, 2020

“David” is an elderly man with several health conditions living in Clay county. His carpet was over 30 years old and contributed to his poor health, and because of his low income he had never been able to replace it. The Healthy Homes Initiative funds were used to remove the carpet and replace it with hard surface floors. Now David has a safer home environment to age in.

Nafia's Story

“Nafia” is a senior citizen living in Clay county. The carpet in her home was filthy. “I tried to clean the carpet, but the stains and smells were still there. I’ve been living in my house since 1989. I’m on a limited income and did not have the funds to do these rooms. I really appreciate programs like this that help people like me.” The Healthy Homes Initiative Program was able to remove the old carpet and install hard surface vinyl floors.

We are grateful to have a sponsor like BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina who invests in our communities, and so proud to have Four Square Community Action as part of our network! We couldn't do this important work without them and their dedicated staff!
