"Daisy" is a senior widow on a fixed income. She lives in a 1428 square ft home that’s well-kept and maintained, however had a high energy use of 16,074 kWh in 12 months. She was one of the first customers to benefit from the Durham Weatherization Pilot and from this program received a HVAC, duct sealing, new EE hot water heater, baseload lighting and water packages, and a new refrigerator. These home updates reduced her energy use by 53% bringing her energy use down to 7,631 kWh in the preceding 12 months.
Daisy was grateful for the improvements made to her home, “I am so thankful to Duke Energy for this program. With seniors like me with only Social Security to live on, this program has truly been a blessing. Before I received this help, my light bill was over $100 every month. Now, ever since Duke Energy helped me get this work done, my bill has been under $100 a month.”
Between August 2018 and December 2019 this program served 207 families through micro-targeting efforts to serve high energy using customers in economically impoverished communities.
We are grateful to have a sponsor like Duke Energy who invests in our communities! We couldn’t do this important work without them and their dedicated staff!
