Apryl & Gabrielle's Success Stories: Healthy Homes Initiative in Pitt and Yancey County

Updated: Aug 4, 2020

“Apryl” is a senior citizen living in Pitt county. Her kitchen was in disrepair and becoming dangerous. The Healthy Homes Initiative funds provided vinyl wood floors, secured the loos cabinetry, installed air purifiers and treated the kitchen for pests. Apryl now feels safe in her kitchen.

Gabrielle's Story

“Gabrielle” is an elderly lady in Yancey county who has lost her husband and son in recent years. She is living on a small limited income and was fearful that her home would be destroyed by water coming in during hard rains.  She spent hours trying to mop and keep the walls dry to prevent mold.  The Healthy Homes Initiative fund was used to properly trench around her home so that the rainwater would be channeled away from the home.

We are grateful to have a sponsor like BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina who invests in our communities, and so proud to have WAGES Community Action as part of our network! We couldn't do this important work without them and their dedicated staff!
